BEST in MH Search Strategy
We will search for high quality information using the following strategy:
- We will search for evidence-based guidelines using the National
Libraries for Health (NLH) guideline finder. If the guideline is more than one
year old, or is not sufficiently specific to the question, or is not evidence-based,
steps 2 & 3 will be carried out.
- We will search Clinical
Evidence in order to identify whether there
is an up-to-date critically appraised summary of the relevant evidence.
- We will search for systematic reviews specific to the question using the
Cochrane Database
of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) and Database
of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE). Where a systematic
review is found, but was published more than 1 year ago, we will search for
randomised controlled trials (RCT’s) performed after the published search
date (see step 4). If no guideline or systematic review of sufficient quality
is found, step 4 will be carried out.
- We will search for RCT’s using PsiTri.
PsiTri is a database of trial-derived evidence that links the registers of
the five Cochrane mental health review groups. The groups submit their updated
registers to PsiTri monthly. Where a relevant review group has not updated
PsiTri recently, we will contact the trial search coordinator.
Searches will be limited to English language texts.
A list of the search
terms used will be included in our answer.
The funding for this service has now ceased so we are unable to accept new questions. Please search our
answers database for details of previously answered questions. These answers are not updated, so please note the date each was prepared.
This web site will remain available, but it will no longer be updated.
